13/1/2014 0 Comments Shutdown Phuket Begins In the last several weeks of protest against the Thai Government, it has now come to this new strategy of a shutdown in Bangkok and it seems elsewhere in Thailand is following. The existing Government has already announced elections in the next coming months but it seems that the protestors are not letting people forget their plight. Bangkok has been in turmoil and it has not helped tourism, the Thai baht, the economy, their daily lives but it looks like that's what the struggle has been about in many ways or at least many of these things. Not forgetting allegations of corruption withing the Government. Now, as with many other locations throughtout Thailand, Phuket is also part of the whole agenda. In support of their comrades in Bangkok, many people have taken to the streets to rally their descent on the country's politics and those running it especially Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who refuses to step down. In Phuket they have started a major rally in Phuket Town. Government buildings and offices were closed, with police and the military on standby. Many schools also closed and at least 3 were lead by student leaders that participated on stage in the rally protest, boosting the influx of younger people who will ultimately become the next generation of voters. It is not clear if the protestors will move to other parts of the island like Patong and Bangtao or even do a sit in at the Phuket International Airport. Tourist have been warned to stay away and not provoke things in any way. Many embassies have also instructed their visitors to be cautious and even advised them to not wear the red or yellow colors as a precaution against any misunderstanding that may erupt from either side in any mistaken support. Phuket police have siad the situation is clam. Even though the protest is loud, it is well organized and the police chief has mentioned that he knows the main persons and have spoken to them to ensure that they keep withing the legally allowed protest rules defined in Thailand's constitution. Public safety to locals and tourist on the island is priority to the police. On the protestors side, they have mentioned that everything they do depends on what happens in Bankok. So now, it's a wait and see game, even for the tourist.  28/9/2013 0 Comments Rihanna & The Loris Saga In PhuketSuperstar Rihanna made a stop over holiday in Phuket Thailand for a few days before heading to Singapore for the Formula 1 night race, grand prix concert. Little did she know controversy would arise over a tiny little creature know as a Loris. These animals are endangered species but she was captured on camera, where she even placed in on her Badgirlriri Instagram page and twitted about it as well.
She was also seen feeding and playing with elephants and her tweets about going to see a ping-pong show on the paradise island didn't help either. The Rihanna and Loris incident seems to have occured on notorious Bangla road in the Patong beach area. In all fairness many street touts, even ladyboys, try to either sell tourist anything & everything. In this case it just seemed like they wanted money for photo taking with the animal. Many others on Bangla road use large reptiles like monitor lizards with the same intention of making money from tourist. It is not known if the Loris owner even knew she was a celebrity. For Rihanna, it seems like she may not have known about these endangered animals and only found them to be cute and cuddly and probably got her curious. However, police and animal rights groups have been up in arms over the issue. Phuket, being a major tourist destination, authorities have since made several arrest, fined and removed these Loris from them. The story continues....but another controversy popped up during the F1 concert in Singapore. Riri, as she is also known as, has been accused of lip syncing during the F1 concert. Plus she looked either drunk or stoned on drugs. Celebrities....what can we say. 14/4/2013 0 Comments Phuket Bike Week 2013Phuket big bike week 2013 kicked off today. It started in the afternoon where all the stores got ready, stage up and going and food and drink stalls perked up for revelers and enthusiast alike. All day through out Patong people could hear these loud roars of the engines as they made their way into the town. By evening most had gathered to the Loma park area where the stage was set up and a special dinner hosted for VIP guest and revelers. A live rock concert was held after for the guest. Prior to that, several speeches and presentations were done with tokens of appreciation for certain deserving people that have been assisting through the 19 years that the event has been going on. There was a lot of people looking at all the crazy bikes whereby a lot of custom job ones truly did stand out. Big bike week will really go BIG next year as they celebrate 20 years in Phuket. Who know what they will come up to but sure the likes of the bikers, sponsors, advertisers and all the people that go to Phuket every year will be having a roaring good time. See what you're missing.

Phuket's Patong Carnival always has these specially modified car show vehicles for the parade as they have massive sound systems built into the cars. They very in amount of speakers but you can see that it comes from the sides, back and even inside the car doors. By night fall their light effects on the modified cars add to the mesmerizing effects of the songs played.
Each car simply packs high energy pulsating music so as to provide the parade contingent with lively attention and it saves the Phuket municipality from added cost on lining the beach road with added speaker and sound systems for the Patong Carnival. It also brings much attention to each contingent as they pass by the crowds who are taking photos and videos. Many car enthusiast can't get enough of these cars as they light up in a myriad of colors and the music effect brings it to life all by itself. It's no wonder that the cars are a show stopper at the Patong Carnival all by itself. Phuket carnival and the upbeat car show gets better each year. Most people see Patong from the street level. It's hard to grasp what Patong really looks like as a resort town, especially when there are so many low rise street buildings that almost look the same. Plus, if you're walking on those streets, from mid-day on wards, there is so many people walking along the same road and opposite of you that your main concern becomes a priority to avoid banging into anyone or anything for that matter. People have been know to bang into lamp post and street signs or fall when there's a step to go up or down. Some people get lost in their directions and find they have walked the same street twice without realizing it because the first time, while trying to avoid everyone and everything. They missed a lot of sights, shops or landmarks their first time around but realize it when they pass something they had seen earlier but even that is confusing if it is a franchised brand and they don't know it. Then there's walking in the day to switching to Phuket's nightlife. All of Phuket's bars & clubs have glittering lights many with pulsating loud music. All this makes the senses go into a state of confusion when walking around and getting your bearings. Just like the day, one may find you have walked the same street via a link way or one of the smaller soi's(roads) that connect them at night. In fact it is worse than day to recall where you were or turned before. Best suggestion would be to get some form of Patong landmark as a main fixed point. Try remembering which way you headed first and which turns you made along the way. For first timers, it is recommended that you take your hotel's business card so you can explain where you need to go to if you find you are lost or forgot where you stay. Be careful about some shady taxi drivers that may take you for a long ride if they discover you are a newbie and the fact that your hotel was just ten feet away but you couldn't see it. Be prepared to lose some cash unnecessarily.
